ALL THE GOOD THINGS

You can choose to read that to the tune of ‘All The Small Things’ by Blink-182 if you want, although I’m not sure why you would. Perhaps because Tom DeLonge has left them (again) in acrimonious circumstances (again) and hopefully they won’t release another album.

Aaaaaanyway.

Over the weekend I’ve had some rather exciting news, which I won’t go into too much detail about until it’s confirmed but is based around the potential for some short fiction featuring the ‘Dark Run’ crew showing up in a magazine before too long. I still need to write said piece of short fiction, but that’s quite an exciting challenge: I have written (and sold) short stories before, but I’ve been concentrating on novels for a while so it’s a slight change of pace. More of that later.

For now, however, I am concentrating on the most exciting news for me as an author, arguably since Del Rey UK picked up Dark Run and Dark Sky nearly a year ago. I am incredibly pleased (bordering on ‘giddy’) to announce that North American rights have been bought for Dark Run and Dark Sky by Saga Press, an imprint of Simon & Schuster USA! Most amusingly, I found this out via a casual reference to my ‘US Editor’ in an email from Rob, my agent: when I emailed back in a frenzy going “Wait, I have a US editor now? When did that happen!?” it transpired that the email he’d sent me an hour earlier telling me about this exciting development had been sent to an address ending in ‘.ocm’ not ‘.com’… When we’d straightened that out and he re-sent me the original email I was ALL OF THE HAPPY (as the kids possibly say).

This also brings me on to wondering how things are settled between my UK and US editors. Do they have to work together? Do they each get a slightly differing version depending on preference? Do they get into a cage and fight it out under MMA rules, winner gets to make the final decisions?

I shall find out and I shall inform you all, just in case you’re interested. For now, I’m going to go and start plotting a short story…
