An interview, a new story, a career break…(!)

A few quick updates from me…

First of all, I’ve now started a twelve-month career break from my day job working for a homelessness charity in order to concentrate on my writing, mainly (but not exclusively) the fantasy series I’m writing for Orbit and Solaris. This is a very exciting time, and I’m really glad that my work has a mechanism in place that allows me to do this.

Secondly, I’ve just had a new short story published as part of Black Library’s Summer of Reading. It’s a short story about an Orlock gang jumping someone else’s cargo, but the problem with that is that you can never be quite sure what the cargo is… If you’d like to, you can read Track Of Words’ very kind review of it here.

And thirdly, I’ve just had an interview go up at Fantasy Hive! Please go and check it out 🙂

  1. Keep social politics out of 40k or don’t write it. I was going to read your book, “Rites of Passage” until I discovered the non-binary nonsense you stuffed in the novel.

  2. I hope Philip changes his mind. I loved the book and your 40k short stories – they are fun to read, good-hearted, and full of world-building details. And they are filled with such wonderful characters who don’t always fall victim to grimdark tragedy, which gets a thumbs-up from me. Long live Chetta!

I admit that gender non-binary pronouns can take getting used to (at least in my case). As most things become more familiar through exposure and use, I’m sure pronouns will as well.

If my wife were to become interested in 40k novels (there is always hope), I will recommend she begin with your books.
